verb

 A verb is a word that shows an action, occurrence, or state of being in a sentence.

Examples

  • Action verbs: run, write, eat, jump
    She runs every morning.

  • State of being verbs: is, am, are, was, were
    He is happy.

  • Helping (auxiliary) verbs: have, has, will, can, do

  • TYPES OF VERBS

    1. Action Verbs

    Show physical or mental action.
    Examples: run, write, think, eat
    👉 She writes a letter.


    2. Linking Verbs

    Link the subject to more information.
    Examples: is, am, are, was, were, seem, become
    👉 He is tired.


    3. Helping (Auxiliary) Verbs

    Help the main verb show tense or mood.
    Examples: is, have, has, will, can, do
    👉 They are playing outside.


    4. Transitive Verbs

    Need an object to complete meaning.
    Example: She reads a book.


    5. Intransitive Verbs

    Do not need an object.
    Example: The baby slept.


    6. Modal Verbs

    Show ability, permission, possibility, or obligation.
    Examples: can, may, must, should, could
    👉 You must study.


    7. Finite Verbs

    Change according to subject or tense.
    Example: He plays football.


    8. Non-Finite Verbs

    Do not change according to subject or tense.
    Examples: infinitive, gerund, participle
